Our hunting grounds produced the 2026 Roe Buck of the Year
The 2026 Roe Buck of the Year was taken near Tárkány. The buck taken by our fellow member Balázs Kozicz received 193.73 points in the second-round trophy assessment. Its antlers weighed 754 grams, and measured 21 centimetres in length. The trophy ranks 30th among the top 50 Hungarian roe deer antlers of all time. The October 2026 issue of the hunting magazine Nimród covered it in detail.
The association meets both the numerical and age-class targets of its cull plan. The results can also be seen in the annual bag.
What do the hunting results show?
- 2024: 19 bucks, with an average trophy weight of 304 grams. The strongest weighed 559 grams and earned a gold medal; there was also a silver medal, and a 405-gram buck missed bronze by just 3 points.
- 2025: 20 bucks; 10 trophies weighed over 350 grams, and 7 were around 400 grams or more. One silver and two bronze medals.
- 2026: 21 bucks, 7 of them taken by international guest hunters. The highlight of the season was the Roe Buck of the Year.
These figures show a realistic chance of taking a strong, medal-class buck. Every season is different: weather, vegetation and luck all play a part.
When is the best time to visit?
The roe buck season runs from 15 April to 30 September.
- Late April – May: vegetation is still low, bucks are easy to spot and are establishing their territories.
- June: tall cereal crops make hunting more difficult; dawn and evening sessions from a high seat offer the best chances.
- Late July – early August: the rutting season. Bucks respond well to calling, making this a favourite time for many hunters.
- August – September: after harvest, visibility improves again and conditions are good for stalking.
How do we hunt?
From high seats, by stalking and, during the rut, by calling — always accompanied by a guide who knows our hunting grounds. The guide speaks Hungarian and German. Off-road vehicles can be used to access the area.
